AMD CEO Lisa Su is finally receiving the recognition that long eluded her, emerging as one of the technology industry’s most respected chief executives. September delivered a remarkable combination of market gains, prominent appearances and major business announcements for the longtime chip leader.
Su attended President Trump’s state dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, sitting at the president’s table with her husband, Daniel Lin. She was seated beside Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and only two seats from Trump.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who leads AMD’s chief chip rival, sat across from Trump with his wife, Lori. The gathering placed Su among several of the most prominent figures in technology and government.
One day earlier, Su appeared with first lady Melania Trump at the New York Stock Exchange. The pair rang the opening bell before participating in a fireside chat, adding another prominent event to Su’s memorable week.
The appearances followed an even larger milestone for AMD investors. The company’s market capitalization crossed $1 trillion for the first time on Monday as its shares surged 9.9% during a broader rally in technology stocks.
AMD’s market value was likely to finish the week above that threshold. The achievement also made Su the first inductee into the Sozzi Unleashed Wall of Titans.
The rally extended what had already been an extraordinary year for AMD shares. The stock has gained 193% year to date, easily outpacing Nvidia’s 22% advance over the same period.
AMD’s share performance has been supported by a succession of business victories. Earlier this month, the semiconductor company exceeded Wall Street expectations across the board with its second quarter financial results.

Adjusted earnings reached a record $1.66 per share, above the consensus estimate of $1.61. Total revenue increased 50% from the prior year to a record $11.5 billion, surpassing analyst projections of approximately $11.34 billion.
The data center segment powered the strong results on both revenue and earnings. Segment revenue more than doubled from a year earlier to $6.7 billion, supported by robust demand for EPYC server CPUs and Instinct AI accelerators.
AMD also issued ambitious growth projections for its server and data center businesses. The company expects server CPU revenue to increase 80% in the second half of 2026 and another 70% in 2027.
Data center revenue is expected to more than double during 2027. Within that business, AMD projects revenue from AI graphics processing units to rise well above 100%.
The company also introduced its next generation artificial intelligence chips, led by the Instinct MI450 Series GPUs and 6th Gen EPYC Venice CPUs. Those chips are intended to power AMD’s new Helios rack scale AI systems.
Helios combines GPUs, CPUs, networking and software in a single integrated platform. AMD designed the system to train and run large artificial intelligence models, giving the company another offering in its effort to compete for expanding AI infrastructure demand.
The product announcement arrived alongside two significant customer and investment agreements. Microsoft plans to deploy Helios across its Azure AI services beginning during the second half of 2026.
AMD also announced a major agreement with Anthropic that substantially expands its challenge to Nvidia in the AI infrastructure market. Anthropic intends to deploy as much as 2 gigawatts of Instinct MI450 GPUs through the Helios system starting in the first half of 2027.
That Anthropic agreement could be worth tens of billions of dollars over time. AMD also committed to invest as much as $5 billion in Anthropic, making it one of the chipmaker’s largest strategic investments ever.
Su told Yahoo Finance during a late July interview that demand for artificial intelligence chips was exceptionally strong. AMD’s record valuation, surging shares, expanding data center business and new customer commitments gave its chief executive a September packed with milestones.
