Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison said Friday that the company created by the merger of Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery will be called Skydance. The announcement came ahead of the transaction’s expected closing next week, setting the corporate identity before the two businesses formally combine.
The naming decision marks another major change for a company that has gone through two major acquisitions within 18 months. Ellison’s production company acquired Paramount in August 2025, then turned its attention to Warner Bros. Discovery only weeks afterward.
“Paramount and Warner Bros. shaped over a century of culture,” Ellison wrote in social media post Friday. “By combining them, we aren’t rewriting history — we’re equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together, we are Skydance: a creative-first home for bold, quality storytelling.”
Ellison said the Skydance name was chosen in a way that keeps Paramount and Warner Bros. intact as distinct studios. Rather than replacing those identities, the new name will give the combined company a separate corporate identity.
“We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, alter or overshadow either one,” he said. “Instead, we wanted a name that would give the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight.”
The company also has selected its market symbol. Once the merger closes, the merged business will trade under the ticker “SKYD,” giving the new Skydance corporate name a matching presence in the stock market.
The ticker is set to take effect upon closing. It will provide a common market identity for the combined operation while Paramount and Warner Bros. continue operating as distinct studios.
The two studios are preparing a sizable film slate. Paramount and Warner Bros. together are scheduled to release 35 films next year, according to data from Rentrak, while remaining distinct studio brands under Ellison’s announced structure.

The road to this combination began with Skydance’s purchase of Paramount. Skydance, the production company behind the “Mission Impossible” movies and “Top Gun: Maverick,” closed that acquisition in August 2025, bringing Paramount under Ellison’s company before the later Warner Bros. Discovery pursuit.
Weeks after the Paramount acquisition closed, Ellison targeted Warner Bros. Discovery in a takeover effort. That pursuit led to a bidding war, extending the company’s acquisition campaign beyond the Paramount transaction it had just completed.
Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery reached an agreement in February. The deal was valued at roughly $110 billion on an enterprise basis, establishing the financial scale of the agreement that is now moving toward its expected closing.
The companies also faced a legal challenge from a group of state attorneys general. After that challenge was settled, Paramount Skydance said this week that the deal was expected to close Tuesday, providing the latest stated timetable for completion.
Leadership of the combined company is also set. Upon closing, Ellison and outgoing Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz will serve jointly as CEOs, pairing the Paramount Skydance chief with the executive preparing to leave Mattel.
The return to Skydance as the parent name creates what the announcement described as a full circle moment. The production company first bought Paramount, and it has now selected Skydance as the identity for the larger company planned with Warner Bros. Discovery.
The announcement tied together the company’s corporate branding, stock symbol and studio strategy in one statement. The Skydance name, the SKYD ticker and the joint CEO arrangement are all described as taking effect upon completion.
Ellison’s Friday announcement therefore addressed more than a branding detail. It identified the name, market ticker and studio arrangement planned for the business before the expected close, while emphasizing that Paramount and Warner Bros. will continue to hold distinct places within the company.
The new structure will use Skydance as the identity for the combined entity while retaining Paramount and Warner Bros. at the studio level. If the transaction closes on the schedule announced this week, the change will follow Skydance’s August 2025 Paramount acquisition by only months.
